그리브스는 달 충돌 분화구로 마레 크리시움 남서쪽 가장자리 근처에 있다.비탈진 내벽의 중앙에 작은 내부 바닥이 있는 원형의 사발형 대형이다.분화구가 용암으로 범람한 분화구 릭의 북쪽 가장자리를 침범하고 있다.북서쪽으로는 예르케스, 북동쪽으로는 피카르트가 있다.

이 편성은 IAU에 의해 이름이 부여되기 전에 릭의 위성 분화구인 릭 D로 이전에 지정되었다.
