Eisenhower Lock

아이젠하워 자물쇠는 세인트로렌스 시웨이의 세인트로렌스 강 다리에 있는 7개의 운하 자물쇠 중 하나이다.[1] 이 자물쇠는 상류로 향하는 배들을 위해 38피트 높이의 리프트를 제공한다.[2] 뉴욕 마세나 근처에 위치한 두 개의 자물쇠 중 하나이다.

이 자물쇠는 "롱솔트"로 알려진 세인트 로렌스 강의 일부를 우회하기 위해 건설되었다. 미군 공병대가 이 공사를 계획하고 감독했다.[3] 실제 시공은 피터 키위트 선슨스, 모리슨-너드슨, 페리니 코퍼레이션, 유타 건설, 월시 건설 등이 맡았다.[4][5]

이 자물쇠는 원래 '로빈슨 베이 록'이라는 이름이 붙었고, 임기가 끝난 뒤 드와이트 아이젠하워 대통령의 이름을 따서 이름이 바뀌었다. 그 자물쇠와 근처의 베르트랑 H. 스넬 록은 와일리-돈데로 운하의 일부분이다. 인근 수력 발전 설비로의 물 흐름을 방해할 필요가 없어 공사가 복잡했다.

세인트로렌스 시웨이는 1959년 6월 26일 몬트리올에서 열린 행사에서 헌납되었다. 주요 연사는 드와이트 아이젠하워 대통령과 엘리자베스 2세 여왕이었다.[6][7] 다음날 아이젠하워 락에서는 두 번째 헌납식이 있었다. 주요 참석자는 엘리자베스 2세 여왕, 리처드 닉슨 부통령, 넬슨 록펠러 뉴욕 주지사였다.[8][9]

1972년에 유조선인 MV 금성호가 자물쇠를 바꾸다가 폭발했다.[10]

2015년 6월 18일 유람선 생로랑호가 자물쇠와 충돌해 물이 빠지면서 이틀 가까이 문을 닫았다.[11][12][13][14]
