시노폴리스(그리스어: "개의 도시"를 뜻하는 ςς for forλςςς)[1]는 고대 이집트의 두 도시를 가리키는 헬레니즘의 토피어였다. 시노폴리스의 상급자와 시노폴리스의 하급자 모두 기독교 시대의 주교였다.[2]

시노폴리스는 상이집트 17nome에 있는 고대 이집트 도시 사카(혹은 하다이?)의 그리스식 이름이었다.[5][6][7] 클라우디우스 프톨레마이오스에 따르면, 이 마을은 강에 있는 섬에 위치해 있었다.[8] 현재 엘 케이의 현대적인 정착지가 그 자리에 서 있다.[9] 시노폴리스의 땅은 나일강의 양쪽 둑으로 뻗어 있었다.[10]

하마타 인근 나일강 반대쪽 둑에서 개들의 매장지가 발견됐다.[11][12] 이웃 도시들은 플루타르크가 (De Iside, 72)에 따르면, 시노폴리스 주민이 옥시린초스 물고기를 먹었을 때, 옥시린초스 사람들은 보복으로 개를 공격하기 시작했으며, 이로 인해 작은 내전이 발생했다고 썼다.[13]

시노폴리스는 람세스 12세 치세 때 누비아 파인데시의 총독에 의해 멸망당했는데, 생존자들은 노예가 되었다.[6]

이슬람교에서 불분명해진 이 교구는 1933년 라틴 가톨릭 적목 주교로 명목상 복원되었다. 이집트에서는 시노폴리스라는 이름이 붙여졌다. 이 판은 수십 년 동안 공석이었고, 두 가지 모두 최하위(에피소)인 다음과 같은 현직이 있었다.

이집트 하류(나일 삼각주)의 부시라이트 너메에 위치한 [14]시노폴리스(Cynopolis)나 키넘(Cynum)으로 불리는 두 번째 시노폴리스가 있었는데,[15][16] 지금은 현대적인 메니에트 이븐 카시브(Meniet ebn Kasib)[17][dubious – discuss]가 있다. 로마 후기 아르카디아 아이집티 지방의 지방 수도이자 메트로폴리탄 대주교 옥시린쿠스의 서프라간 주교였다.
