시칠리도리루스는 안시로체팔리대과에 속하는 단구체일류 단구체의 속이다.그 속종의 종류는 시클리도그루스 절지라칸투스 파르나(Perpointracantus Paperna, 1960)로 본래의 명칭으로 한다.[1]속종의 모든 종은 물고기의 아가미에 기생하는 기생충으로, 즉 아프리카 치클라과, 난디과, 사이프리오돈과 등이 있다.[1][2] [3][4] [5] [6]

치클리도그루스의 종은 탕가니카 호수에 있는 많은 진부한 종에 기생하고 있다; 최근의 연구(2016)는 심해어의 기생충인 종들이 연골수에서 온 종에 비해 기생충 특이성을 감소시켰으며, 아마도 낮은 숙주 가용성에 적응한 것으로 나타났다.[7]null

Antoine Pariselle과 Louis Euzet에 따르면, 2009년에 71종의 치클리도그루스가 알려져 있으며, 이후 새로운 종들이 설명되고 있다.니콜 크멘토바, 밀라노 겔나르, 스테판 코블뮐러, 마아텐 P.M.반호베는 2016년[8] 100여 종으로 추정했고 차흐라즈드 라무니, 마아텐 P.M.반호브, 안드레아 심코바 등이 2017년 111종을 등재했다.[9]null

치클리도그루스의 종은 세계 각지에서 소개되어 왔는데, 외계 종은 그들의 숙주, 특히 틸라피아(tilapia)가 소개되어 왔다.[10]null
