ABC(American Book Company)는 초등학교, 중학교, 대학 수준의 교과서를 전문으로 하는 미국의 교육용 도서 출판사였다. 이 책은 1836년부터 1960년까지 1억 2천만 부가 팔린 맥거피 리더스를 출판한 것으로 가장 잘 알려져 있다.[1]
역사
American Book Company는 반 앤트워프, 브래그 앤 코, A.S. 반스 앤 코, D. 애플톤 앤 코, 그리고 아이비슨, 블레이크맨, 코의 합병으로 1890년에 설립되었다.[2] 1967년[3] 리턴인더스트리에 인수되어 1981년 국제 톰슨 기구에 매각되기 전까지 리턴교육출판사의 사단법인으로서 존재했다.[4] 그 후 톰슨은 아메리칸 북 컴퍼니 K-12 자산을 D. C.에 매각했다. 1981년 히스와 컴퍼니. 그 회사는 D로 흡수되었다. C. 히스 그리고 각인으로서 존재하지 않게 되었다. 아메리칸 북 컴퍼니에 남아 있는 K-12 자산은 현재 D. C.를 인수한 후튼 미플린(현 호튼 미플린 하코트)이 소유하고 있다. 1995년 히스와 컴퍼니.
ABC/Litton의 많은 대학 수준의 교과서 권리는 현재 Cengage Learning인 Thomson에서 Wadsworth의 각인 하에 남아있지만[5][6], Van Nosteland Reinhold에게도 팔렸다.
미국 작가 시리즈
1934년에 시작하여 1940년대까지 계속되는 아메리칸 북 컴퍼니는 해리 H. 클라크가 총편집장으로 있는 23권의 아메리칸 작가 시리즈를 출판했다.[7] 각 책에는 편집자가 한두 명씩 있었고, "대표선정, 서론, 참고문헌, 노트"로 구성되었다.[8][9][10][11][12][13]
벤자민 프랭클린의 저서는 프랭크 루터 모트에게 칼 반 도렌으로부터 열렬한 찬사를 받았다. [14]
