미국 TV예술과학아카데미(NATAS)가 수여하는 제40회 주간 에미상(Dayday Emmy Awards)은 "주간 텔레비전 제작의 모든 분야에서 탁월한 성과를 인정하며 2012년 달력 기간 중 오전 2시부터 오후 6시까지 방송되는 개인과 프로그램에 수여된다"[1]고 밝혔다.시상식은 2013년 6월 16일 오후 5시(태평양 표준시)부터 캘리포니아 주 베벌리힐스의 베벌리힐튼에서 열렸다.[1][2][3]이 시상식은 HLN과 가브리엘 고넬이 제작한 집행부에 의해 미국에서 텔레비전으로 방영되었다.[3]

이날 저녁은 샘 챔피온, 에이제이 해머, 로빈 미드가 처음으로 사회를 맡았고, 프리쇼 세리머니는 해머와 크리스티 바울이 사회를 맡았다.[4]2013년 2월 27일 드라마 사전공모가 발표되었고,[5] 2013년 5월 1일 굿모닝 아메리카 에피소드에서 후보작들이 발표되었다.[1][6]

수상 소감 형식은 시상식 사상 처음으로 수상 소감에 이어 수상자들과 직접 현장 인터뷰를 추가하기 위해 변경됐다.[7]관련 행사에서는 2013년 6월 14일 로스앤젤레스 웨스틴 보나벤투어에서 제40회 창작 예술 에미상 시상식이 열렸다.[3][8][9]

'볼드 앤 더 뷰티풀'은 11개 후보작 중 '우수 드라마 시리즈 연출팀' 등 4개 트로피와 '크리에이티브 아츠 에미상' 등 5개 트로피를 거머쥐며 최다 수상의 영예를 안았다.[10]Days of Our Life는 우수 드라마 시리즈를 포함하여 두 개의 상을 받았다.엘렌 드제너러스 쇼가 우수 토크쇼 엔터테인먼트 부문에서 4번째 상을 수상했다.영과 레스티스는 총 23개(창의예술 에미상 포함)로 가장 많은 후보에 올랐다.스티브 하비는 가족 불화를 위한 Excellence Game Show Host와 스티브 하비를 위한 Excellence Talk Show Host에서 두 개의 후보작을 받았다.평생 공로상은 몬티 홀과 밥 스튜어트에게 수여되었다.[11]이날 시상식에는 91만3000명의 관객이 몰렸다.[12]
