1950년 필라델피아 필리스가 브루클린 다저스를 상대로 내셔널리그 페넌트를 2경기 차로 이겼다. 로스터의 젊음 때문에 "휘즈 키즈"라는 별명을 얻은 그들은 4경기 연속 뉴욕 양키스에 월드시리즈에서 패했다.

이전 비수기

1950년 1월 10일, 구단주 밥 카펜터는 이 클럽이 공식적으로 "블루제이"라는 별명을 버리고 "필리"가 될 것이라고 발표했다. 이 클럽은 1944년에 이 별명을 채택했지만 팬들 사이에서 인기를 끈 적은 없었다.[4]

시티 시리즈

1950년 시즌 전 시티 시리즈는 개막일에 앞서 3경기로 계획되었다. 필라델피아의 눈발이 날리고 추운 날씨가 첫 경기 취소를 초래했다. 애슬레틱스는 필립스를 7-4로 이겼고, 필립스는 다음 경기에서 11-2로 이겼다.[5]
