와디엘홀

와디 엘홀(Wadi el-Hol)은 이집트 나일강 서안에 위치한 퀘나 벤드(Qena Bend)의 룩소르 북서쪽에 있는 파르쉬트 로드에 있는 계곡이다. 계곡의 암각화는 지금까지 발견된 가장 오래된 표음문자의 예를 보여주는 것으로 보인다.[1]

역사

1993년, 미국의 이집트학자 데보라 다넬과 그녀의 당시 남편 존 다넬은 와디 엘 홀 계곡의 석회암 절벽에 새겨진 두 줄의 암석 글씨를 발견했다. 이들은 1990년대까지 여러 계절 동안 현장으로 돌아와 비문을 자세히 연구했다. 1999년에, 그들은 마침내 기원전 1800년에서 1900년까지 거슬러 올라가는 가장 이른 생존 알파벳을 발견했다고 결론짓고 그들의 연구를 발표했다.[2] [3] 특히 이 비문은 세라비트 엘카뎀프로토-시나 문자처럼 보인다.[4]
