The King Is Alive는 크리스티안 레브링 감독이 연출한 2000년작 극영화다. 도그메 95 규정에 따라 네 번째로 상영된 이 영화는 2000년 칸 영화제의 '언 머큐어 리치' 섹션에서 상영되었다.[1][2]

플롯

나미비아 사막에서 한 무리의 관광객들이 버스가 길을 잃고 연료가 바닥나면서 발이 묶인다. 통조림 당근과 이슬은 관광객들을 살아있게 하지만, 그들은 속수무책으로 함정에 빠지고, 세상과 완전히 단절된다. 용기와 도덕의 섬유가 약해지고 관계가 흔들리자 연극매니저 헨리는 셰익스피어의 비극인 리어왕을 내세우라고 설득한다. 관광객들이 오직 모래언덕과 멀리 떨어진 원주민 감시자를 위해 헨리의 손으로 쓴 대본을 통해 작업하면서, 현실은 점점 연극을 닮아가기 시작한다.[3]

리뷰어 집계 업체인 로튼 토마토에 대해 더 킹 이즈 어라이브는 68회 리뷰 기준 60%의 지지율을, 평균 6/10의 지지율을 기록하고 있다. 줄거리는 다소 억지스럽지만 이번 도그메95 영화에서 연기하는 앙상블은 괜찮다는 공감대가 형성돼 있다.[4] 메타크리트어에서는 평론가 25명을 기준으로 가중평균 평점이 100점 만점에 52점으로 나타나 '혼합 또는 평균 평점'[5]을 나타내고 있다.
