스포츠 외교(Sports United)로 알려진 스포츠 외교(Sports United)는 미국 국무부의 스포츠 외교[1] 부서다.스포츠 외교는 스포츠를 통해 전세계 청소년들이 리더십, 상호 이해, 학업 성취 등 중요한 오프 코트 기술을 개발할 수 있도록 돕는다.[2]이 프로그램의 4대 축은 스포츠 사절단, 스포츠 방문자, 스포츠 보조금, 스포츠 이니셔티브를 통한 여성 및 소녀 역량 강화 등이다.[3]이 프로그램은 2002년에 시작되었고 그 이후 140개 이상의 국가에서 수천 명의 참가자들에게 도달했다.대부분의 스포츠 외교의 프로그래밍에서 가장 중요한 주제는 장애 스포츠 접근과 포함이다.[4]

역사

스포츠 사절단

스포츠 방문자

스포츠 방문자는 스포츠 워크숍에 참가하기 위해 2주 동안 미국에 와서 미국 사회와 문화에 대해 직접 배우는 비엘리트 청소년 운동선수와 코치들이다.스포츠 방문자 프로그램은 청소년들에게 운동에서의 성공이 어떻게 교실에서 삶의 기술과 성취의 발달로 전환되는지 발견할 수 있는 기회를 준다.[14]스포츠 외교는 2003년부터 140개국에서 온 1,100명 이상의 젊은 선수와 코치를 미국으로 데려와 스포츠 방문자 프로그램에 참가시키고 있다.

스포츠 그랜트

스포츠 보조금 프로그램은 국내외에서 스포츠 및 비엘리트 유소년 선수들과 함께 일하는 미국에 기반을 둔 비영리 단체들의 연간 공개 보조금 대회다.이 지원금은 사회 변화를 위한 스포츠, 스포츠와 건강, 그리고 스포츠와 장애라는 주제를 다루는 지원 프로그램을 제공한다.[15]2002년과 2012년 사이에 스포츠 보조금 프로그램은 60개국에서 프로그램을 시행하는 미국 기반의 비영리 단체에 거의 90개의 보조금을 지급했다.이전 보조금 수령자는 미주 및 국제 모빌리티 파트너를 포함했다.[16][17]
