Shotting in the Heart는 당시 롤링스톤의 선임 편집장이었던 미칼 길모어가 기능장애가 있는 가정에서 소란스러운 어린 시절과 그의 형 게리 길모어가 1977년 유타주 프로보의 한 모텔에서 저지른 살인사건으로 총살되어 결국 처형된 것에 대해 쓴 회고록이다.[1]
2001년에 Shot in the Heart는 아그니에스카 홀랜드가 감독한 HBO 영화가 되었으며, 미칼 역에는 조반니 리비시, 개리 역에는 엘리아스 코테아스, 형제들의 다가오는 아버지 역에는 샘 셰퍼드, 프랭크 길모어 주니어 역에는 리 테르게센이 출연하였다.
밴드 어뷰츠의 1977년 펑크 록 싱글 "Gary Gilmore's Eyes"가 영화의 사운드 트랙에 사용되었다.[2] 이 곡은 '이식 수술에서 게리 길모어의 눈을 받은 병원 환자의 관점'[3]에서 쓴 곡이다.
