스코틀랜드 체스 선수권 대회
Scottish Chess Championship스코틀랜드 체스 챔피언십은 전 스코틀랜드 체스 협회였던 체스 스코틀랜드에 의해 조직된다. 1884년부터 운영되어 왔으며, 요즘은 주말과 주간에 걸쳐 9회전 토너먼트의 형태를 취하고 있다. 등급 제한 구간과 시니어 선수권 대회 등 보조 토너먼트가 첫 7일 동안 열리고 두 번째 주말에는 주말 대회가 열린다.
원래 우승은 초청에 의해서만 이루어졌고 스코틀랜드에서 국제적으로 출전할 자격이 있는 선수들만이 우승할 수 있었지만, 타이틀 규범을 더욱 가능성 있게 만들기 위해 때로는 다른 국적의 타이틀을 가진 선수가 출전하도록 초청되기도 했다.
2008년에 그 선수권 대회는 국제 오픈으로 대체되었다. 스코틀랜드 챔피언은 스코틀랜드 선수 중 가장 높은 성적을 거둔 선수가 결정한다. 에든버러에서 열린 2009년 대회에는 9명의 그랜드마스터가 참가했다. 2010년 행사는 2011년 에든버러에서 해밀턴에서 열렸다. 2014년 선수권 대회는 글래스고에서 열린 영연방 체스 챔피언십에 통합되었다. 2015년 에든버러에서 행사가 열렸고 2016년 행사는 다시 인 글래스고에서 열릴 것이다.
현재 토너먼트 중재자는 IA 알렉스 맥팔레인, IA 앤디 하우이다.
주목할 만한 수상자
최근 주목할 만한 우승자들로는 스코틀랜드 챔피언십에서 첫 우승자인 2003년 케테반 아라카미아 그랜트, 1999년 스코틀랜드 선수 최초로 홈그라운드에서 그랜드마스터 타이틀을 획득한 조나단 로우슨, 2004년 스코틀랜드와 영국의 더블더블을 달성한 조나단 로우슨 등이 있다. 로디 맥케이는 1974년 첫 우승을 차지한 지 약 39년 만에 2013년 우승을 차지했다. 2018년 무라드 압둘라는 최연소 더블 우승자가 되었다.
