오코넬 스트리트는 사우스오스트레일리아주 노스아델라이드를 통과하는 남북 간 주요 노선으로, 아델라이드 도심까지 북하교 통근자들이 많이 이용하는 노선이다.[1]그것의 북쪽 끝에서 그것은 바톤 테라스 웨스트와 교차하고 프로스펙트 및 주요 북쪽 도로의 시작이다.그것의 남쪽 끝에는 브루캄 정원과 교차하며 브루캄 플레이스와 윌리엄 로드 왕의 개업식과 교차한다.[1]그것은 노스 애들레이드 내의 두 주요 쇼핑 및 식당 중 하나로 여겨지고 있으며, 다른 하나는 멜버른 스트리트다.[2]

역사

이 거리는 1837년 5월 23일 존 힌드마르슈 주지사와 로버트 구거 식민지 장관, 그리고 존 제프콧 판사를 포함한 여러 고문들의 회의에서 명명되었다.[3]아일랜드의 정치 지도자와 당시 전성기였던 카톨릭 해방주의자 다니엘 오코넬이 케리 트리니티 칼리지의 제프콧의 동료 학생이자 트랄리의 동료 국외 거주자인 그의 아들 모리스 오코넬에게는 추정대로 이름이 지어지지 않았다는 주장이 제기되었다.[4][5]

원래 제프콧 스트리트는 아델라이드 북부를 통과하는 주요 남북 통행로가 될 예정이었으나, 인근에 배수로 문제가 발생하여 윌리엄 스트리트에서 브루엄 가든을 통해 연결선이 개통되고 결과적으로 오코넬 가를 통해 아델라이드 도시로 가장 직접적으로 진입하게 되었다.[6]
