NGC 3821은 낮은 표면 밝기[2] 나선은하로[3], 레오 별자리에서 약 2억 7천만 광년 떨어진[3] 곳에 있는 고리 은하다[4].[5]이 은하는 1785년[6] 4월 26일 천문학자 윌리엄 허셜에 의해 발견되었으며 레오 성단의 일원이다.[7]
