NGC 1978(ESO 85-SC90이라고도 함)은 도라도 별자리의 타원형 구상 성단 또는 개방 성단이다. 그것은 대마젤란 구름 안에 위치해 있다. 그것은 1826년 11월 6일 제임스 던롭에 의해 발견되었다.[7] 50아크초의 틈새에서 그것의 겉보기 V-밴드 크기는 10.20이지만, 이 파장에서는 성간 소멸의 크기가 0.16이다.[4] 그것은 3.9 아크분 폭으로 나타난다.[8] NGC 1978의 방사 속도는 293.1 ± 0.9 km/s이다.[9]
