메릴 채핀 테니(Merrill Chapin Tenney, 1904년 4월 16일 ~ 1985년 3월 18일)는 미국의 신약성서 및 그리스어 교수로 여러 책을 저술한 사람이었다. 그는 Zondervan 그림 성경 사전의 총편집자였으며, New American Standard Bible의 원번역팀에서 근무했다.[1]
배경과 교육
테니는 1904년 4월 16일 매사추세츠 첼시에서 월리스 페이 테니와 리디아 스미스 굿윈 사이에서 태어났다.[2] 닉 선교사 양성소(1924년),[3] 고든 신학선교대학에서 박사학위(1927년), 보스턴대학에서 박사학위(1930년), 하버드대학에서 성서·패트리스틱 그리스어 박사(1944년)를 취득했다.[4] 그는 1930년 헬렌 마가렛 자데르퀴스트(1904~1978)와 결혼했고,[5] 함께 세 아들 존 메릴(유년기에 사망한 사람), 로버트 월러스, 필립 채핀을 두었다.[2]
학력
테니는 메사추세츠 주 브레인트리에 있는 Storrs Avenue 침례교회의 목사(1926–1928)를 잠시 역임했으며, 고든 칼리지에서 아직 학생이 있는 동안 가르치기 시작했다.[3] 졸업 후 교수진에 합류하여 1944년 휘튼 칼리지로 이사할 때까지 신약성서와 그리스어 교수로 재직하다가, 결국 1947년부터 1971년까지 대학원의 학장이 되었다. 테니는 헨리 클라렌스 티센이 선택한 동료였고[clarification needed] (계속해서) 근본주의 지지자였다.[6] 1977년 은퇴했지만 1982년까지 명예교수로 재직했다.[3]
유산과 죽음
1951년 테니는 복음주의 신학회의 제2대 회장이 되었다. 1975년, 성서 및 성서적 해석의 Current States라는 제목의 수필집(Current States in Vacuitary and Patristic 해석) ISBN0802834426)이 그의 명예를 걸고 출간됐다. 테니는 1985년 3월 18일 휘턴에서 세상을 떠났다.[3]
