Live from Lawrence는 "Fresh Sounds From Middle America" 컴필레이션 앨범 시리즈의 네 번째 앨범으로, 시리즈의 이전 앨범과 마찬가지로 Fresh Sounds Records와 KJHK 라디오 ^[1]방송국의 공동 작업이었다.

KJHK는 이 ^[2]컴필레이션에 출연하기를 원하는 밴드들을 위해 "비닐을 위한 질문"이라는 대회를 열었다."신선한 소리" 시리즈는 원래 토크 ^[3]잡지의 빌 리치가 지역 밴드를 전국적으로 ^[4]^[5]홍보하기 위한 방법으로 고안했다.하지만, 로렌스 저널 월드와의 인터뷰에서, 몇몇 독립 음반 회사의 중역들은 그러한 등장이 밴드들에게 ^[6]더 큰 성공을 가져다 줄 수 있는 발판이 될 것이라고 의심했다.

Of the sixteen bands featured on the LP, twelve are from Lawrence or nearby Topeka.
