빅토리아 중군수는 호주 빅토리아 주의 관직으로 빅토리아 주지사의 부군 역할을 하고 있다. 도지사가 국외로 나오면 중지사가 도지사의 역할을 한다. 이 사무실은 빅토리아 대법원장이 겸임하는 경우가 많았다.

역사

1851년 빅토리아 식민지와 뉴사우스웨일스가 분리되기 전, 이 지역은 뉴사우스웨일스의 포트필립 지구로 불렸다. 뉴사우스웨일스 주지사는 교육감들을 임명했다. 1839년 찰스 라 트로베 대위가 교육감으로 임명되었다. 라 트로베는 1851년 7월 1일 빅토리아가 뉴사우스웨일스로부터 분리되면서 빅토리아 주지사가 되었다. 1855년 5월 책임정부를 얻은 빅토리아에 대해 당시 현직 중수였던 찰스 호담 대위의 직함이 빅토리아 주지사가 되었다.[1]

빅토리아가 주가 되자 중지사에게 특허권을 제공했지만 사무실은 채워지지 않았다. 대신 뉴사우스웨일스에서의 관행에 따라 빅토리아 대법원장이 필요할 때 주지사 역할을 했다. 이것은 1886년 11월 6일, 퇴임하는 대법원장 윌리엄 스타웰 경이 부지사로 임명되면서 바뀌었다. 은퇴한 고위 인사들에 대한 명예 수여는 그 당시 영국에서는 흔한 관행이었다.[2] 1889년 그가 죽은 후, 1899년 6월 10일 존 매든 경이 부지사로 임명될 때까지 그 자리는 다시 공석이 되었다. 그는 이미 대법원장이라는 덕분으로 주지사직을 수행했지만, 스타웰의 전례에 따라 그가 직접 중수부장으로 임명한 것이 대법원장의 행정력을 대체했다.[3]
