《인디펜던트》(The Independent)는 1831년부터 1835년까지 태즈메이니아주 론체스턴에서 발행된 주간 영어 신문이다.

역사

1831년 3월 28일에 시작된 인디펜던트는 처음에는 월요일, 수요일에는 1831년 5월 9일까지 출판되었다.1831년 5월 18일부터 1835년 1월 31일까지 계속하여 토요일에 간행되었다.[1]

론체스턴 주 브리즈번 거리에 위치한 인디펜던트의 첫 번째 출판사는 콘월 출판사와 상업 광고주로서 이전 경험을 가진 사무엘 베일리 다우셋이었다[2].[3]

1831년, 론체스턴 광고주의 [4]발행인인 존 파스코 포크너는 인디펜던트와 경쟁 관계에 있었다.포크너와 다우셋 모두 신문 칼럼을 열띤 개인적 교류에 사용했다.[5]

론체스턴 주 브리즈번 가에 있는 인디펜던트 사무소는 호바트에 본사를 둔 신문인 콜로니얼 타임즈와 태즈매니언의 대리인 역할을 했다.[6][7]1832년 5월 5일, 다우셋은 인디펜던트에 그의 은퇴에 대해 태즈메이니아어 편집자인 R L 머레이의 작별을 고하는 기사를 썼다.[8]

인디펜던트를 떠난 후, 1833년에 다우셋은 시드니 모닝 헤럴드, 그리고 후에 오스트레일리아 신문에 입사했다.

1835년 1월 31일 인디펜던트가 출판이 중단되자, 당시 출판사였던 윌리엄 만은 즉시 론체스톤에서 상업, 농업, 해군 등 콘월 크로니클을 시작했다.[9][10]
