홀로믹틱 호수는 1년 중 특정 시기에 상하로 온도와 밀도가 균일한 호수로 호수 물이 완전히 섞일 수 있다.

대부분의 호수는 독성호수다; 비록 일반적으로 생각되는 것보다 덜 희귀할 수 있지만, 영성호는 드물다.[2]
