헥토렐라는 몬티아과과에 속하는 꽃식물의 속이다.[1]단일종인 헥토렐라 세스피토사로 대표되는 단형동물이다.뉴질랜드가 원산지다.[2]
헥토렐라의 속명은 스코틀랜드-뉴질랜드의 지질학자, 자연학자, 외과의사인 제임스 헥터(1834–1907)를 기리는 것이다.[3]Cespitotosa의 라틴어 특유의 별칭은 cespitosa 또는 Cf. cf. cespititius에서 tufted 또는 잔디처럼 생긴 뜻의 cespitotose를 가리킨다.[4]헥토렐라 케시피토사는 처음 묘사되어 핸드에 출판되었다.N. 열성.1864년 27페이지의 1권.[2]
