HD 89998(r Velorum)은 벨라의 남쪽 별자리에 있는 단일[8] 별이다.희미한 별이지만 육안으로 볼 수 있는 시각적 크기는 4.82이다.[2]연간 시차 변화 15.9 mas에서 결정된 HD 89998까지의 거리는 205광년이다.[1]이 별은 약 155만 2천년 전에 140리 이내에 도달한 태양 중심 방사상 속도 +21 km/s로 지구로부터 더 멀리 이동하고 있다.[4][2]

이것은 K1 III의 별 분류를 가진 진화된 거대한 별이다.[3]사지 다크닝 보정 후 이 별의 측정된 각 직경은 1.72±0.02 mas이다.[9]이 별의 추정 거리에서, 이것은 태양의 반지름의 11.6배의 물리적 크기를 산출한다.[5]그것은 4,812K의 유효 온도에서 확대된 광권으로부터 태양 광도의 54배를[6] 방출하고 있다.[6]
