Extensible MPEG-4 Textual Format

Extensible MPEG-4 Textual Format(XMT)은 추가 편집에 적합한 방식으로 MPEG-4 데이터를 저장하기 위한 고급 XML 기반 파일 형식이다. 이에 비해 MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) 형식은 유연성이 떨어지고 완성된 콘텐츠를 유통하는 데 사용된다.

MPEG(ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG11)에 의해 개발되었으며 MPEG-4 Part 11 Scene 설명 및 적용 엔진(ISO/IEC 14496-11)에 정의되어 있다.[1]

XMT provides a textual representation of the MPEG-4 binary composition technology, based on XML. The XMT framework accommodates substantial portions of SMIL, W3C Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) and X3D (the new name of VRML). Such a representation can be directly played back by a SMIL or VRML player, but can also be binarised to become a native MPEG-4 MPEG-4 플레이어가 재생할 수 있는 표현. BiM(XML용 바이너리 MPEG 형식)으로 또 다른 브리지가 만들어졌다.[2]
