앨라배마 주의 엘리튼(Ely's Town)은 1821년부터 1873년까지 앨라배마 제퍼슨 카운티의 군청 소재지였다.[2] 캐럴스빌(1819~1821)에 이어 카운티의 두 번째 자리였다(지금의 버밍엄 인근 파우더리).[3] 1873년 법정은 버밍엄으로 옮겨졌다.[3] 엘리튼이 있던 지역은 현재 버밍엄 서쪽 끝에 있는 사우스웨스트 7번가와 코튼 애비뉴와 접해 있다.[4]

엘리튼은 1820년 12월 20일 마을로 편입되었다. 그것은 코네티컷 주의 연방 토지 대리인 윌리엄 엘리(William Ely)가 협상한 160에이커(0.65km2)의 보조금을 가진 카운티 의자로 만들어졌다. 그 신도시는 그를 기리기 위해 지어졌다. 이 장소는 이전에 개구리 레벨이라고 불렸으며, 주로 경마를 위한 운동장으로 알려져 있었다.[5]

1853년 상인 존 캔틀리는 워싱턴의 핸드 프레스와 그의 신문인 센트럴 알라바미안이 발간을 중단한 후 모세 랭캐스터로부터 활자를 구입한 후 엘리턴 헤럴드를 설립했다.[8] 많은 소유권, 합병, 명칭 변경 후에 그 논문은 1950년에 버밍엄 포스트 헤럴드가 되었다.

이 공동체는 1907년에 시로 편입되었으나 1910년 1월 1일부터 시행된 대 버밍엄 법안의 일환으로 버밍엄에 병합되었다. 프랭크 W. 스미스는 엘리튼의 최초이자 유일한 시장이었다. 알더멘 위원회는 올리스 브라운, 반 스미스, C. M. 비트즈, T. T. 앨리, W. M. 매리너로 구성되었다. 엘리튼이라는 이름은 여전히 버밍엄의 이 지역을 가리키는 데 쓰인다.[9][10]
