스톰은 한 번에 여러 개의 스톰이 존재할 수 있기 때문에 대중과 통신할 때 혼란을 피하기 위해 역사적 이유로 붙여진 이름입니다.이름은 미리 정해진 목록부터 순서대로 그려집니다.열대성 사이클론의 경우, 시스템에 65km/h(40mph) 이상의 바람이 1분, 3분 또는 10분일 때 이름이 지정된다.그러나 기준은 분지마다 다르다.예를 들어, 일부 열대 저기압은 서태평양에서 명명되는 반면, 호주와 남태평양 지역에서는 열대 저기압의 명칭이 폭풍 중심에서 절반 이상 발생하는 강풍까지 연기된다.
