흔히 가로새[1] 또는 가로새 딱정벌레로[2] 알려진 코코넬라횡단풍뎅이는 인도에서 말레시아와 오스트레일리아에 이르는 무당벌레의 일종이다.[1][3]유럽과 북아메리카에 널리 퍼져 있는 종인 가로새인 코치넬라 트랜스베르소굿타타와 혼동해서는 안 된다.이 두 종이 함께 논의되는 경우 작은 가로새의 대체 국어를 C. transversalis에 사용할 수 있다.


가로로 뻗은 무당새는 1781년 덴마크 동물학자 요한 크리스티안 파브르니우스(Johan Christian Fabricius)에 의해 처음으로 '코치넬라 트랜스탈리스(Coccinella transversalis)'로 묘사되어 지금도 원래의 이름을 지니고 있다.Fabricius의 서술은 이 종을 C. repanda로 명명하는 칼 피터 툰버그보다 몇 달 앞서 있었다.[4]

설명

길이 3.8~6.7밀리미터(0.15~0.26인치), 너비 3.3~5.45밀리미터(0.130~0.215인치)로, 가로 레이디버드는 넓은 범위에 걸쳐 거의 변화를 보이지 않는다.[4]주로 밝은 빨간색이나 주황색 엘리트라(yellytra)를 가진 검은색 머리를 가지고 있으며, 중간선을 따라 검은색 띠를 두 개, 측면 3-로프 마크 두 개가 있다.[5]

먹잇감

무당벌레의 많은 종들처럼, 가로로 뻗은 무당벌레는 특히 성장기 초기에 농작물에 피해를 주는 다양한 종류의 초식 곤충을 잡아먹기 때문에 농업에서 중요한 역할을 한다.[6]Among those insects hunted include many species of aphids, including the pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum), Aphis affinis, cowpea aphid (Aphis craccivora), cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii), milkweed aphid (Aphis nerii), spirea aphid (Aphis spiraecola), leafcurling plum aphid (Brachycaudus helichrysi), cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae), Cervaphis quercus, Cervaphis rappardi indica, turnip aphid (Lipaphis pseudobrassicae), Macrosiphoniella yomogifoliae, potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae), rose aphid (Macrosiphum rosae), Melanaphis donacis, Melanaphis sacchari, Myzus nicotianae, green peach aphid (Myzus persicae), Pentalonia nigronervosa, corn aphid (Rhopalosiphum maidis), Sitobion rosaeiformis, Taoia indica, Toxoptera aurantii, Therioaphis ononidis, Therioaphis trifolii, Uroleucon compositae and Uroleucon sonchi, species of leafhopper including Empoascanara indica and Idioscopus clypealis, the scale insect species Orthezia insignis, the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri), the cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera), and orient알잎벌레나방(Spodoptera litura).[5][7]
