바이오커리어스는 캘리포니아주 서니베일에 위치한 지역사회 생물연구소 겸 비영리단체로,[1][2][3] 에리 젠트리, 크리스티나 해서웨이, 조쉬 피페토, 레이몬드 맥컬리, 조셉 잭슨, 티토 얀코스키 등이 공동 설립했다.킥스타터와 239명의 후원자들의 도움으로 그들은 35,319달러를 모금했다.[4][5]바이오큐러스는 기업가들이 장비와 재료, 코워킹 스페이스에 접근할 수 있는 완벽한 작업실 및 기술도서관으로 시민과학자, 취미생활자, 활동가, 학생 등이 모이는 곳이다.사이언티픽 아메리칸 매거진은 바이오커리어스를 "미국 최고의 커뮤니티 생명공학 연구소 중 하나[...]"[6]라고 묘사했다.
이 연구소는 2010년 킥스타터에 데뷔해 후원자로부터 35,319달러를 모금했고, 2011년 10월 문을 열었다.[1][7][8][9]바이오큐러스는 3D 바이오프린터, 야광 식물 등 프로젝트를 지원해왔다.[10][11]2016년 바이오커리어스는 산호세에 있는 The Tech of Innovation Museum과 제휴하여 맥주 애호가, 맥주 양조업자, 과학자들을 대상으로 긱토버페스트(Geektoberfest)를 개최하여 강연, 데모, 맥주 시음회 등으로 맥주의 생물학을 배웠다.[12]
