Apterocyclus는 사슴벌레과에 속하는 희귀 사슴벌레의 한 속이다.Apterocyclus에는 약 5종이 기술되어 있다.Apterocyclus의 종은 하와이 제도의 카우아이 섬에서만 발견되며, 하와이 [2][3][4][5]제도에 서식하는 유일한 스카라베이드 딱정벌레입니다.
Apterocyclus는 날지 못하는 사슴벌레로 크기가 14에서 23mm 사이이다.최근에 5종이 존재하지만, 일부는 멸종할 수도 있다.Apterocyclus의 130개 이상의 표본이 1871년에서 1922년 사이에 연구되었지만, 지난 50년 동안 매우 적은 표본이 발견되어 기관 소장품들에 놓여졌다.1960년대 후반 이후 5종 중 3종(Apterocyclus hololuluensis, A. kawaii, A.[5] waterhousei)만이 생존한 것으로 확인됐다.
낮은 고도에 있는 동굴에서 나온 아화석을 근거로 볼 때, 대부분의 Apterocyclus 종이 인간이 하와이에 도착한 후 멸종된 것으로 보인다.현존하는 종들의 대부분은 현재 2,000피트 [5][6]이상의 높은 고도에서 발견된다.
