아르곤네 국립 연구소가 구축한 초기 컴퓨터인 연구소 디지털 자동 컴퓨터의 AVIDAC 또는 Argonne 버전은 부분적으로 존 폰 노이만이 개발한 IAS 아키텍처를 기반으로 하였다.실험실 물리학부에서 25만 달러에 건설하여 1953년 1월 28일부터 운영을 시작하였다.[1][2][3]
그 시대의 거의 모든 컴퓨터와 마찬가지로, 그것은 다른 컴퓨터(다른 IAS 기계도 마찬가지)와 프로그램을 교환할 수 없는 독특한 기계였다.
