채널 44(C44, 콜사인 CTS33)는 사우스 오스트레일리아 애들레이드에 있는 무료 공중파 텔레비전 채널이다. C44는 국내외에서 제작된 콘텐츠를 특징으로 2004년 4월 23일부터 방송하고 있다. 이전에 아날로그 텔레비전에서 C31로 알려졌던 C44는 2010년 11월 5일에 디지털로 전환했고 2012년 5월 31일에 아날로그 신호를 껐다. C44는 지역 사회와 관련된 다양한 지역, 주간, 국제 콘텐츠를 방송한다.

역사

C44 이전까지 애들레이드의 지역 텔레비전 방송국은 애들레이드 커뮤니티와 교육 텔레비전 주식회사가 운영하는 ACE TV였다. ACE TV는 1994년[2] 5월부터 2002년 12월까지 면허조건 위반으로 취소된 임시면허를 소지하고 있었다.[3] ACE TV는 2002년 5월에 마지막 방송을 했다.[4]

2003년 ACE TV가 폐쇄된 후 C31 Adelaide Ltd는 Adelaide의 지역사회 텔레비전 라이센스를 받았다.[4] 2004년 4월 23일 아날로그 채널 UHF 31에서 C31 애들레이드(C31)라고 불리는 이 방송국은 2004년, 수도의 대부분의 지역 TV 서비스가 호주 통신 미디어 당국(ACMA)으로부터 영구 허가를 받았다.[5] 그러나 2004년부터 시작된 애들레이드에서의 영구면허 할당절차는 2006년 중반 종료되었으며, 두 예비신청자(C31이 1명)는 서로 다른 이유로 거절되었다.[6]

2010년 11월 5일 방송국을 디지털 채널 44로 이전하여 2012년 5월 31일 아날로그 신호가 꺼지는 등 44개의 아델라이드(Adelaide)로 개칭하였으며, 44개는 2013년 새로운 로고를 받았고, 이후 2014년 채널 44(C44)로 개칭되었다.

2014년 9월 호주 연방통신부 장관 말콤 턴불은 2015년 12월에 지역 텔레비전 방송국에 대한 면허가 종료될 것이라고 발표했다.[7] 2015년 9월 현 총리인 턴불은 2016년 12월 31일까지 기한을 연장한다고 발표했다.[8]

2016년 4월 채널은 온라인 이동을 시작해 홈페이지에서 채널을 라이브로 스트리밍했다. 온라인 상에서의 이동은 지역 콘텐츠가 이제 애들레이드 밖에서도 볼 수 있다는 것을 의미한다.[9][10]

2016년 12월 31일 만료될 예정인 면허는 미치 피필드 통신부 장관이 막판에 두 차례 연장했고, 첫 번째는 2017년 6월 30일까지,[11] 이후는 2017년 12월 31일까지 연장했다.[12] 파이필드는 정부가 닉 제노폰 팀과 체결한 대규모 언론개혁에 대한 상원의 지지를 얻기 위한 계약의 일환으로 2018년 6월 30일까지 추가 연장을 한 반면,[13][14] 2018년 6월 1일 발표된 추가 연장은 방송사에 2020년 6월 30일까지 2년을 더 주었다.[15]

2020년 6월 연방정부로부터 막판에 12개월 연장을 허가받았고,[16][17] 2021년 6월 렉스 패트릭 남호주 상원의원이 발의한 개정안에 힘입어 만료 일주일 전에 3년 연장을 허가받았다.[18][19]

SAFC와의 파트너십

사우스 오스트레일리아 영화사의 제1국 자문 위원회는 채널 44와 제휴하여 [20]제1국 스크린 전략 2020-2025의 일환으로 2020년 11월에 출범하였다.[21]
