역사

2019년 1월, 미국 육군은 M4 카빈과 M249 경기관총의 대체품을 찾기 위한 차세대 분대 무기 프로그램을 시작했습니다. 2019년 9월 SIG Sauer는 디자인을 제출했습니다.[9] SIG Sauer MCX-SPEAR(소총의 상용명칭)는 방탄복의 개선이 5.56×45mm NATO(M4 및 M249용)와 7.62×51mm NATO(M240용)와 같은 현재 사용되는 탄약의 효과를 감소시킬 것이라는 우려에 따라 6.8×51mm SIG Fury 카트리지에 장착되어 있습니다.[1][10][11] Army Times는 이것을 "중간 구경 6.8mm 탄창"이라고 설명합니다.[1]

25대의 XM7 1차분은 2023년 말에 인도될 예정이었습니다. 육군은 보병, 기병 정찰병, 전투 공병, 전방 관찰병, 전투 의무병 등 근접 전투 병력을 위해 총 10만 7천여 발의 소총을 조달할 계획입니다. 비근접 전투병에게 무기를 지급할 계획은 처음에는 없습니다. 이 계약은 미 해병대와 미 특수작전사령부가 포함되도록 선택할 경우 추가 무기를 만들 수 있는 능력을 갖추고 있습니다.[14]
