백 개의 법정의 중요성은 17세기부터 쇠퇴했다. 19세기에 이르러 가난한 법조합, 위생구, 고속도로 지구와 같은 여러 개의 다른 단일 목적의 군들이 생겨났고, 이전에 파리와 수백 명이 담당했던 행정 역할을 채웠다. 비록 백작이 정식으로 폐지된 적은 없지만, 1867년[9] 군법원이 설립되고 1894년 지방정부법에 의해 구역이 도입되면서 기능은 종료되었다.[10]

윈터스토크 경(Lord Winterstoke, 1830~1911)은 1906년 귀족으로 봉직되었을 때 백작에서 작위를 받았다. 그의 이름은 브리스톨 남부의 윈터스토크 로드와 웨스턴-슈퍼마레(아마도 백의 바로 뒤에 있는 사람의 이름을 따서 지은 것 같다.)에서 유래한다.

윈터스토크 백학원은 웨스턴-슈퍼마레에 위치한 중등학교로 백학파의 이름을 따서 지어졌다.

"윈터스토크"는 1200년부터 1900년까지 현대 영국의 발전에 관한 LTC 롤트의 '노벨'에도 적용된다.
