로버트 파나라

로버트 F. 파나라(1920년 7월 8일 - 2014년 7월 20일)는 국립 청각장애인 기술원(NTID)과 국립 청각장애인 극장의 시인, 교수, 공동창립자였다.^[1] 파나라는 미국에서 청각장애 문화 연구의 선구자로 여겨진다.

인생

파나라는 1920년 뉴욕시의 브롱크스에서 태어났으며, 어릴 때 척추수막염으로 청력을 잃었다.^[2] 고등학교를 졸업한 뒤 갤러데 칼리지(현 갤러데 대학)를 거쳐 졸업했다.^[3]

그는 갈라우데 대학에서 강의를 하기 전에 로체스터 공과대학교로 옮겨 국립 청각장애인 기술원을 설립하는 것을 도왔다.^[4]^[5]

파나라는 극장에 많은 관심을 가졌고 청각장애인 배우들과 관객들을 위한 최초의 연극 몇 편을 개발했다. 그는 미국 청각장애학교와 연계하여 국립 청각장애 극장을 설립하는데 중요한 역할을 했다.

파나라는 시인이었고, 그의 수집된 시는 1997년에 출판되었다.^[6]^[7]

1987년 로체스터 공과대학이 그의 이름을 따서 공연예술극장을 명명하고,^[9] 그의 이름으로 장학기금을 설립하였다.^[1]
