폴리티커 네트워크(Politicker.com)는 뉴욕 옵저버에 의해 운영되는 50개의 주 기반의 정치 웹사이트로 이루어진 전국 네트워크였다.[1]

오리진스

이 네트워크는 뉴욕 주 정치에 초점을 맞춘 저널리스트 벤 스미스의 뉴욕 옵서버 블로그인 "더 폴리티커"에 기원을 두고 있다.[2] 2005년 시작된 오리지널 블로그는 정치권에서 가장 널리 읽히는 블로그가 됐다.[3][4] 생생한 댓글 코너를 주목한 더 빌리지 보이스가 '최고의 지역정치 블로그'로 불렸다.[5] 2005년 민주당 뉴욕시장 후보인 크리스토퍼 브로듀어는 폴리티커 블로그에 보도되지 않은 것에 대한 보복으로 스미스의 뉴욕 옵서버 음성메일에 살해 위협을 남긴 혐의로 체포되었다.[6]

성장과 쇠퇴

2008년 12월에는 동북지역을 중심으로 17개소에서 6개소로 네트워크가 축소되었다.[8] 2009년 1월까지 뉴햄프셔, 매사추세츠, 펜실베이니아 등이 폐쇄되어 뉴욕과 뉴저지에 남아 있는 사이트들이 네트워크로 남게 되었다.[9] 이러한 폐막으로 "폴리커" 브랜드의 국가적 열망이 사실상 종식되었다.[10]
