필로소마는 가시, 슬리퍼, 산호 랍스터(팔리누라과, 스키엘라리과, 시낙스과)의 애벌레 단계로, 이를 택손 아켈라타로 통일하는 가장 중요한 특징 중 하나이다.[1][2] 그것의 몸은 놀라울 정도로 얇고 평평하며 투명하며 다리가 길다.

가시가 있는 바닷가재의 필로소마 애벌레는 플랑크톤에서 벤트한 존재로의 이행 단계인 푸에룰루스 단계로 변하기 전에 긴 플랑크톤 수명을 가지고 있다.[3][4] 모집을 예측하기 위해 애벌레 생존이 중요함에도 불구하고, 혈모소마 유충의 생물학에 대해서는 별로 알려져 있지 않다.[5] 많은 경우에 심지어 자연적인 식단조차도 여전히 불분명하다.[6]
