마잔 셰일은 아칸소주와 오클라호마주 오와치타 산맥에 있는 초기 오르도비아 지질학 양식이다.이 간격은 1892년에 처음 설명되었지만 미국 지질학자인 휴 딘스모어 미제르의 연구의 일환으로 1918년까지 이름을 밝히지 않았다.[3][2]
