황후호텔은 토론토 시내의 용과 굴드 거리 모퉁이에 있는 3층짜리 붉은 벽돌 건물이었다.2011년 1월 3일 화재로 소실되었다.[1]그 호텔은 1888년에 개업했다.[2]그 호텔은 몇 번이나 주인이 바뀌었다.[3]그 재산은 1970년대 중반에 호텔 영업을 중단했다.

역사

335 Yonge Street는 1888년부터 1970년대까지 소유주가 다른 호텔들을 수용했다.1960년대에는 에디슨호텔로 알려졌으며, 영 가의 붐비는 록앤롤 문화의 주요 라이브 음악 장소였다.[4]그 건물이 기능을 멈춘 후 호텔의 일부분은 많은 사업체들에 의해 임대되었다.2010년 랄라니그룹이 부동산을 매입한 후 건물주들이 철거에 나섰으나 토론토 시의회가 2010년 7월 16일 보호유산으로 지정하면서 중단됐다.[5]

2010년 4월 건물 전면 일부가 붕괴되었다.[5]

방화 및 철거

기술자들이 건물 파손을 수리할 수 없다고 판단한 2011년 12월 335명이 폐허를 철거했다.

이 건물은 2011년 1월 4일 화재로 큰 피해를 입었다.[6]당시 소유주들은 토론토시와 회의를 갖고 신속한 재산 회복을 위한 전략을 논의하고 있었다.[7]건물이 파괴된 후, 헤리티지 토론토는 이 건물을 "지역 랜드마크"로 묘사하는 용도 지정의 취지로부터 인용했으며, "이 시대의 인기 있는 제2제국의 요소와 로마네스크 부흥양식이 혼합된 19세기 후반 상업용 건물의 잘 만들어진 사례"를 인용했다.[1]

불이 났을 무렵 건물 주변에 있던 후드에 얼굴이 가려진 개인을 감시카메라에 포착했다.[8]

Stewart Poirier는 조사 후(2018년 CBC TV의 탐정) 방화 혐의로 기소되어 유죄판결을 받았다.[9] 그는 2012년 12월에 10년 형을 선고받았다.[10]푸아리에르는 조이스빌 연구소에 수감 중이던 2013년 2월 10일 자연사했다.[11]

결국 이 부지는 지난 2017년 말 상업용 부동산을 건설하던 개발자 럼프코퍼레이션이 소유·관리할 수 있도록 무혐의 처리됐다.[12]
