부르르 샤퍼
Burr Shafer부르르 샤퍼(Burr Shafer, 1899년[1] 10월 24일 ~ 1965년 6월 25일)[2]는 미국의 만화가였다. 그의 만화 모음집에는 J. Wesley Smith라는 캐릭터가 다양한 역사적 배경에서 등장하고 있다.[3] 그의 역사적 풍자는 미국 대통령 해리 S를 감동시켰다. 트루먼은 "나는 요점을 이해할 만큼 똑똑하다는 것이 매우 자랑스럽다"[2]고 쓸 것이다. 그의 만화는 <뉴요커[4]>와 <토요일 문학평론>에 실렸다.[5]
탐험가 존 스미스와 명확히 동일시되지는 않았지만, 포카혼타스에 관한 만화 패널에서 탐험가의 상황에 J. 웨슬리 스미스 캐릭터가 묘사되었다. 도끼가 내려오려고 하는 그녀의 아버지의 도마 위에 머리를 얹고 있었던 그 농담은,웨슬리의 중간이름으로, 진짜 존 스미스와 혼동해서는 안 된다는 것이었다.
버르 샤퍼는 캘리포니아 오렌지 카운티에서 사망했다.[2]
