바이오원은 비영리 과학 연구 출판사다.[1]
바이오원(BioOne)은 1999년[2] 미국 생물과학연구소, 스콜라리 출판 및 학술자원 연합([3]SPARC), 캔자스 대학교, 그레이트 웨스턴 도서관 연합, 앨런 프레스 등 5개 학술 협력자들에 의해 501(c)(3) 비영리 단체로 워싱턴 DC에 설립됐다.
바이오원 창조의 주된 원동력은 상업적 학술적 출판의 대안에 대한 주요 학술적 이해당사자들 사이의 공통된 욕망이었다.[4]
바이오원컴퍼니에서 발생하는 구독료 수입의 절반은 참여 출판사로 나뉜다.[3]
