Barisal gunsBarisal guns or "fog guns" (mistpoeffers (fog dissipators) in Belgium and Netherlands, Seeschießen (sea/lake gunshots) in Germany, brontidi (thunder-like) or baturlio marinas in Italy)[1] refer to a series of loud booms heard near the Barisal region of East Bengal (currently in Bangladesh) in the 19th century.[2][3] 소리의 기원에 대해서는 여러 가지 설이 있다. 한 가지 일반적인 설명은 지방 지형에 의해 부서진 파도 소리에 의해 발생했다는 것이지만 지질학적인 기원도 제시되었다.[1][1] 이 소리는 스카이 퀘이크의 예로서, 해당 지진 활동 없이 설명할 수 없는 갑작스러운 큰 소리였다. 비슷한 소리가 인도의 갠지스 델타와 브라흐마푸트라 강 삼각주,[3] 미국의 동부 해안과 내륙의 핑거 레이크, 북해 지역,[4] 독일 남부,[5][6] 일본, 이탈리아의 호수, 그리고 때로는 물에서 멀리 떨어진 곳과 같은 전세계의 많은 수변 지역에서도 보고되었다.[citation needed]
