아메리캐스트(Americast, styled americast)는 SBC, BellSouth Corporation, Ameritech Corporation, GTE Corporation (2000년까지 버라이즌의 일부분), SNET 등 5개 전화회사의 케이블 대체 방송 합작회사였다. 월트 디즈니 컴퍼니의 디즈니 텔레벤쳐 자회사는 프로그래밍 파트너였다.[2][1] 협력사가 사용할 수 있는 옵션으로 케이블, 직접 방송 위성, 마이크로파 등을 갖춘 미국 표준 배송 기술이 채택되지 않았다.[3]

역사

Americanast는 SBC, BellSouth, Ameritech, GTE에 의해 1996년 초에 설립되었다.[2] Southern New England Telecommunications는 1996년 6월에 Americanast에 가입했다.[4]

1996년 8월 아메리캐스트는 제니스 일렉트로닉스에 10억 달러 상당의 디지털 셋톱 박스를 발주했다.[3] 1997년 7월 이 회사는 디즈니 텔레벤쳐에 아웃소싱하는 프로그래밍 및 마케팅 부서를 없앴다. 이때까지 아메리텍은 29개소에 아메리캐스트 시스템을 구축했다.[2]

SNET는 2001년에 코네티컷 주의 아메리캐스트 서비스를 중단할 것으로 예상되었다.[5] 2001년 5월, Ameritech의 Americast 유닛이 Wide Open West, LLC에 매각되었다.[6] Right before Americast was discontinued, it was available in the following areas, among others: Cerritos, CA (a suburb of Los Angeles), Ventura County, CA, Hartford, New Haven, Chicago, Columbus, suburban Cleveland, suburban Detroit, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Honolulu (Oahu), New Orleans, Orlando, Miami, Vestavia Hills, AL (a suburb of Birmingham), a플로리다의 탬파베이 지역.
