American War Mothers는 1917년에 설립되었고 1925년 2월 24일에 의회 헌장을 수여했다. 이 단체는 501(c)4 비영리 비정치 비종파적 비당파적 단체로, 회원들은 분쟁의 시기에 군 복무를 했거나 군 복무를 하고 있는 아이들의 어머니들이다.[1]
