윌리엄 핸디 루들로(William Handy Ludlow, 1821년 4월 2일, 뉴욕 웨스트체스터 카운티 욘커스 ~ 1890년 9월 26일, 뉴욕 서퍽 카운티 오크데일)는 미국의 정치인이다. 그는 또한 남북전쟁 때 연합군 장교로 복무했다.

초년기

루들로우는 1821년 4월 2일 뉴욕 웨스트체스터 카운티 욘커스에서 태어났다.[1][2] 그는 에즈라 루들로(1786–1861)[3]와 레이첼 세귀네(1788–1864)의 아들로 1808년 2월 6일 스태튼 섬에서 결혼식을 올렸다.[4][5] 그의 아버지는 뉴욕시립대학 건물의 건축가 겸 건축가였다.[6][7][8]

그는 매사추세츠 베이 식민지의 부지사 및 중위로 선출된 로저 루들로(1590–1664)의 직계 후손이었다. 코네티컷 주지사는 가족 중 처음으로 북아메리카에 정착했다. 그의 친할아버지 오바디야 루들로([9]루들람)는 미국 혁명 당시 뉴저지군의 장교로 전쟁 내내 조지 워싱턴의 오른팔이었다.[10][11][12] 찰스 스테드먼 불 박사는 루드로우의 첫째 사촌인 헨리 킹 불의 아들이었다.[10] 루드로우의 4대 증조부 윌리엄 루들람 스르(1605-1665)는 1653년경 롱아일랜드 사우샘프턴에 도착했다. 루들램의 유언장은 뉴욕시 역사상 최초로 기록된 유언장이다.

루들로우는 뉴욕대학을 졸업했다.[11]

경력

제76대 뉴욕주 입법부 시절인 1853년 뉴욕주 의회 서퍽 카운티 출신의 민주당 의원이었다.[13][14] 이 회기 동안, 루들로우는 휘그 후보인 예레미야 엘스워스에게 85표를 얻어 39표를 얻어 국회의장으로 선출되었다.[11] 의장 시절 호라시오 세이모어 주지사는 '은행자본의 기반 확충을 위한 법안'에 대해 거부권을 행사했다.[15]

전쟁 서비스

그는 제73기 뉴욕 의용 보병대에 2소위로 입대했고, 곧 존 애덤스 딕스 소장의 참모진에 애착을 갖게 되었고, 중령과 참모총장까지 진급했다.[19][20]

남북전쟁 말기에는 버지니아주 포트 먼로에서 포로 교환을 위한 요원으로 활동했으며, 1865년 3월 13일 "전쟁 중 성실하고 공훈적인 공로"로 준장 겸 소장인 미국봉사단(U.S)이 제대했다.

후기 경력

1866년 서퍽 현을 대표하는 전국연합주중앙위원회에 뉴욕주 중앙위원회 소속으로 임명되었다.[21] 정계 은퇴에도 불구하고 그는 정치 행사에 계속 참석하였다.[22]

전쟁 후 1868년부터 뉴욕주 톤타인생명보험회사의 사장을 지냈다.[23]

사생활

1841년 12월 9일, 뉴욕 롱아일랜드의 이슬립 주변에 있는 니콜라스 저택의 상속녀인 윌리엄 니콜 (1798–1823)의 [24]딸 프랜시스 루이사 니콜 (1822–1887)과 세라 그린리와 결혼했다. 그들은 다음을 포함한 여섯 아이의 부모였다.[23]
