유타랩터 주립공원모압에서 북서쪽으로 약 23km 떨어진 미국 유타주 그랜드 카운티에 있는 주립공원이다.[1]

설명

이 공원은 미국 191번 국도 동쪽과 아치스 국립공원의 서쪽에 위치해 있으며, 면적은 6,500에이커(26km2)에 이른다. 이 공원에는 거대한 드로매공룡 공룡 유타랩터 오스트롬메이시고생물학에 대한 이해가 앞선 공룡의 유적을 산출한 달튼웰스 채석장이 있다.[2] 이 공원에서 발견된 화석에는 적어도 1억 3천 5백만 년 전 백악기 초기의 공룡들, 예를 들어 새와 같은 네드콜베르티아, 장갑 낀 가스토니아, 목이 긴 모아보사우루스 등이 있다.[3]

역사

달튼 웰스제2차 세계대전 당시 일본계 미국인 수용소인 모압격리센터로 사용되었던 역사적인 민간인 보호단 수용소의 현장이기도 하다.[1][4][5]

1975년에 브리검 대학의 팔레온트학자인 짐 젠슨이 그 장소를 파냈다. 1993년 짐 커클랜드, 로버트 개스톤, 도널드 버지는 달튼 웰스 등의 화석을 사용하여 유타랩터라는 이름을 가진 새로운 거대 랩터를 묘사했다.[6]

2001년, 큰 블록이 발굴되었는데, 유타랩터의 여러 표본이 포함되어 있는데, 이는 오리토포드 공룡을 둘러싼 큰 집단을 나타낸다. 2013년에, 그것에 대한 추가 연구가 시작되었고, 현재 진행 중에 있으며,[7][8] 커클랜드가 감독하고 있다.

2021년 3월 11일 주 의회 의원들은 유타랩터 주립공원을 조성하는 법안을 통과시켰다.[9] 이 공원을 설립한 법은 주 대표 스티브 엘리슨이 후원했다. 이 공원을 만든 법안에는 모건 카운티로스트 크릭 주립 공원을 설치하는 내용도 포함됐다.[4]
