대한민국 부산광역시 남구 탕곡에 위치한 유엔기념묘지(UNMCK; 한국어: 재한유엔기념공원; RR: Jaehan yuen ginyeomgongwon)는 대한민국 부산광역시 남구 탕곡에 위치한 유엔군사령부(UNC)의 한국전쟁 전사자들의 묘지입니다.이곳에는 2,300개의 무덤이 있으며 세계에서 유일한 유엔 묘지입니다.14헥타르(35에이커) 이상의 무덤이 매장된 군인들의 국적에 의해 지정된 22개의 장소에 조성되어 있습니다.[12]

역사

임시 전장 묘지 및 유해 수습

한국 전쟁은 1950년 6월 북한 인민군이 남쪽을 공격했을 때 시작되었습니다.전투가 진행됨에 따라 유엔군은 대전(1950년 7월 9일), 관의(관리),[13] 금촌(금촌),[13] 신동(신동) 인근에 전투 사상자를 위한 임시 군사 묘지를 조성했습니다.[14]북한군이 부산을 향해 진격할 때 이 묘지들은 버려져야 했습니다.[14]이후 부산 둘레 전투가 전개되면서 마산, 밀양, 대구에 임시 묘지가 조성되었고, 1950년 7월 11일 부산 묘지가 조성되었습니다.[15]전투가 북한으로 밀려들어오면서 개성,[13] 석혼, 원산, 번총(북총군),[13] 유단니, 고토리 등에 임시 묘지가 세워졌습니다.[16]전투가[17] 시작된 두 달 만에 11개의 사단급 묘지가 세워졌고, 이후 5개의 유엔군 묘지가 북한에 세워졌습니다.[18]

전쟁 초기 가장 가까운 미군 빈소 부대제2차 세계대전 당시 실종된 미국 공군 병사들의 유해를 찾고 있던 일본 요코하마의 108분묘등록소대였습니다.[15][19]미국의 유일한 현역 묘지 등록 단위는 Ft에 있었습니다. 브래그, 노스캐롤라이나.[20]108호대는 전투가 계속되자 114호 묘역 등록 중대로 재편되어 흥남평양, 수촌에 임시 묘지를 세우기 위해 배치되었습니다.[15]제2보병사단을 지원한 것은 제2쿼터마스터 중대의 그레이브스 등록부로, 148그레이브스 등록 중대에서 추가 처리하기 위해 연합군과 미군의 유해를 수집했습니다.[21]1950년 9월 유엔군이 인천침략을 감행했을 때, 565 묘역 등록 중대의 소대가 동행했습니다.[15]그 외 빈소에는 1951년 4월 발족한 제293호 묘역등기소가 있었습니다.[15]험준한 지형과 혹독한 기후, 그리고 불발탄부비트랩의 위협 때문에 한국에서는 유해를 수습하고 매장하는 것이 어려웠습니다.[6][22]

탕곡묘지 조성공사

1951년 1월 18일 탕곡에 유엔군 묘지(UNMC)가 착공되어 28.2 헥타르(70에이커)의 부지에 수작업으로 이루어졌습니다.[23]1951년 4월 6일 매튜 리지웨이 장군이 헌정했습니다.[14][23][24]묘지 등록 부대는 미군과 연합군의 유해들이 영구적으로 매장되거나 송환되기 전에 탕곡에 집중했습니다.[14][19]매장 서비스 외에 유골을 보관하는 냉장실과 [23]화장 시설도 추가됐습니다.콜롬비아 대대의 사상자들은 탕곡에서 미국 묘지 등록국에 의해 화장되었다가 1954년 콜롬비아로 송환되었습니다.[25]오늘날 묘역에 있는 2,300개의 무덤은 안장된 군인들의 국적에 의해 지정된 22개의 장소에 마련되어 있습니다.[12]

휴전후

유엔군사령부는 1953년 7월 한국정전협정 체결 이후 북한 영토에 매장된 시신을 수습하기 위해 노력했습니다.[26]북한에 있는 국군포로들을 위한 묘지가 16곳의 국군포로 수용소에 세워졌습니다.[27]1954년 9월부터 10월까지 유엔군과 북한군 사이에 '영광작전'이라 불리는 사상자 교환으로 유해 4,219구가 수습되었고, 이 중 1,275구가 비미군 사상자였습니다.[28](북한과 중국인 사상자 1만 4천여 명의 유해도 교환됐습니다.)[29]1950년부터 1954년까지 약 11,000명의 사상자가 미국 육군 묘지 등록국에 의해 관리된 UNMC에 매장되었습니다.[5][30][31]

유엔묘지로 설립되어 CUNMCK로 이전

1955년 12월 15일 유엔 총회 결의 977호(X)의 통과로 유엔 기념 묘지로 공식적으로 설립되었습니다.[32]전쟁이 끝난 후, 그 묘지는 유엔의 예산으로부터 자금을 지원받았지만, 중-소 세계는 이 자금 지원에 반대했습니다.[33][34]1973년, 그 묘지는 UN으로부터 그곳에 군인들이 묻혀있는 11개국의 대표자들로 구성된 유엔기념묘지위원회 (CUNMCK)로 옮겨졌습니다.[12][35]

문화유산관광

이 묘지는 대한민국 문화재청의 대한민국 등록문화재 목록에 359호로 지정되어 있습니다.[36]또한 환태평양 관광객들의 관광 명소이기도 합니다.[37][38]2011년 반기문 유엔 사무총장은 이곳을 세계에서 유일한 유엔 묘지로 묘사했습니다.[39]
