개요
이 신문은 1992년에[2] The Monitor로 설립되었고 2005년 6월에 Daily Monitor로 다시 시작했다. 그 신문은 자신의 사적 소유권이 편집자와 기자들의 독립성을 보장한다고 주장한다.[8]

2013년 경찰 급습
데일리 모니터의 구역은 2013년 5월 20일 우간다 경찰에 의해 급습되었다. 이는 이 신문이 데이비드 세주사가 쓴 것으로 알려진 편지를 발간한 직후에 일어난 일로, 무후지 카이나루가바 대통령직을 위해 반대하는 사람들은 목숨을 걸었다고 위협했다. 카이네루가바는 오랜 역사를 지닌 야웨리 무세베니 대통령의 아들이다. 같은 편지가 또 다른 우간다 신문인 레드 페퍼에 의해서도 발행되었는데, 사무실도 급습되었다.[10]
2013년 5월 30일 경찰의 포위망이 종료됐고, 포위 도중 꺼졌던 신문사와 라디오 방송국 90.4 뎀베 FM, 93.3 KFM 우간다 등이 다시 문을 열었다.[11]
