역사

스미스소니언의 역사는 에드워드 K에서 시작되었다. 라이프지의 은퇴한 편집자 톰슨은 스미스소니언의 당시 비서였던 S. 딜런 리플리로부터 "스미소니언[기관]이 관심을 가지고 있거나 관심을 가져야 할 것들에 대해" 잡지를 제작해 달라는 요청을 받았다.[4]

발표자들은 스티븐 호킹, 스티븐 콜버트, 데이비드 번, 허비 핸콕, 에린 브로코비치, 루벤 블레이드, 빌 나이, 아트 슈피겔만, 알 프랭켄 상원의원 등이 참여했다.

미국의 독창성 상 자체가 예술가 제프 쿤스가 만들었다.[5]

Smithsonian.com 사진 콘테스트

스미스소니언 매거진은 2003년부터 매년 국제사진촬영대회를 운영하고 있다.[6]100여 개국으로부터 수만 개의 영상이 제출되고 있다.
