센티넬레스인도 안다만과 니코바르 제도노스 센티넬센티넬 사람들의 원치 않는 언어다. 센티넬 사람들과 세계의 다른 나라들 사이의 접촉 부족 때문에, 본질적으로 그들의 언어, 또는 그 생명력에 대해 알려진 것은 아무것도 없다.[3] 센티넬 사람들은 외부인을 섬으로 들여보내는 것을 허락하지 않으며 일반적으로 방문객들에게 적대적이다.[4] 우호적인 교류는 드물었다.[5]

분류

섬주민들은 단일 언어를 구사하며, 안다만어족 중 한 명인 것으로 추정된다.[3] 문화와 기술의 유사성과 그 지리적 근접성에 대해 거의 알려지지 않은 것을 근거로, 그들의 언어는 그레이트 안다만어보다는 자라와 같은 온간어족과 관련이 있는 것으로 추측된다.[6] 옹게어를 하는 사람들이 의사소통을 시도하기 위해 북센티넬 섬으로 끌려간 문서화된 경우, 그들은 주민들이 말하는 언어를 전혀 인식할 수 없었다.[7] 자라와와 센티넬라어는 서로 이해할 수 없는 언어라고 기록되어 있다.[8]

상태

센티넬레스는 100~250명으로 추산되는 섬의 미지의 인구와 일치해 스피커 수가 적어 멸종위기에 처한 국가로 분류되는데, 인도 정부의 대략적인 추정치는 100명이다.[1][2][9]
