역사

제초제 라운드업(glyphosate)에 내성이 있는 유전자 조작 유채씨는 1995년 캐나다에 처음 소개되었습니다(Roundup Ready).1998년에 개발된 유전자 변형 품종은 지금까지 가장 질병에 강하고 가뭄에 강한 유채류 품종으로 여겨집니다.2009년에는 캐나다 작물의 90%가 제초제에 내성이 있었습니다.[17]2005년 미국에서 재배된 유채꽃의 87%가 유전자 변형되었습니다.[18]2011년 전 세계적으로 재배된 3,100만 헥타르의 카놀라 중 820만 헥타르(26%)가 유전자 변형되었습니다.[19]

2019년 유채유의 세계 생산량은 2,400만 으로 캐나다, 중국, 인도가 주도하여 세계 총 생산량의 40%를 차지했습니다.[22]캐나다는 2019년 세계 최대 유채유 수출국으로 전체 생산량의 약 76%에 해당하는 320만 톤을 선적했습니다.[22]

ICE선물 캐나다(구 위니펙상품거래소) 카놀라 선물 계약은 전 세계 카놀라 무역의 기준가격입니다.[23]

중국에서 유채요리는 주로 동물 사료용보다는 흙 비료로 사용되는 반면 [24]유채요리는 주로 튀김용으로 사용됩니다.한 관찰자의 말을 빌리자면, "중국은 연간 2천만 톤의 식물성 기름 공급 부족을 겪고 있습니다.브라질, 미국, 아르헨티나 등으로부터의 콩 수입으로 부족분의 상당 부분을 충당하고 있습니다."[25]

GMO 규제

유전자변형식품(GMO)

생산공정

카놀라유

카놀라 오일은 사람이 섭취하기에 안전하다고 여겨지며,[41][42] 비교적 낮은 양의 포화 지방, 상당한 양의 단일 불포화 지방, 약 2:1의 단일 불포화 지방 비율을 가지고 있습니다.[43]
