팜유기름야자 열매의 메조카프(붉은 접시 과육)에서 추출한 식용 식물성 기름입니다.[1] 오일은 식품 제조, 미용 제품 및 바이오 연료로 사용됩니다. 팜유는 2014년 석유 작물에서 생산되는 전 세계 오일의 약 47%를 차지했습니다.[2] 팜유는 초가공 식품에서 맛의 품질과 일관성을 안정화하고 유지하기에 더 쉽기 때문에 식품 제조업체에서 자주 선호합니다.[3] 2015년 전 세계적으로 평균적으로 인간은 1인당 7.7 kg (17 lb)의 팜유를 소비했습니다.[4] 화장품 및 바이오 연료와 같은 다른 용도의 수요도 증가하여 열대 국가에서 팜유 농장의 성장을 장려하는 공급에 대한 수요가 증가했습니다.

팜유의 사용은 환경과 인권 단체들의 관심을 끌었습니다. 팜유 산업은 야자수가 재배되는 열대 지방의 삼림 벌채에 중요한 기여를 하고 있으며, 재배자들 사이에서 인권 침해 의혹이 제기되어 사회 문제의 한 요인으로 지목되어 왔습니다.[5] 지속 가능한 팜유에 관한 원탁회의를 통해 보다 지속 가능하고 윤리적인 팜유를 만들기 위해 2004년에 결성된 업계 그룹입니다. 하지만 조직을 통해 인증된 팜유는 거의 없으며, 일부 단체에서는 그린워싱이라고 비판하기도 했습니다.[6]

2018년, 국제 자연 보전 연맹의 한 보고서는 팜유가 토지와 물 사용 면에서 다른 기름보다 훨씬 더 효율적이라는 것을 인정했습니다. 그러나 삼림 벌채는 다른 기름으로 바꾸는 것보다 더 많은 생물 다양성 손실을 초래합니다.[7] 세계 최대 팜유 생산국은 인도네시아가 2022년에 60%[8]를 생산했고 말레이시아, 태국, 나이지리아가 그 뒤를 이었습니다. 인도네시아는 주로 팜유에서 바이오디젤을 생산합니다.[9]

역사

기름야자 (Elaeis guinensis)

인간은 5,000년 전까지 거슬러 올라가는 기름야자를 사용했습니다. 1800년대 후반, 고고학자들은 기원전 3,000년까지 거슬러 올라가는 아비도스의 무덤에서 원래 팜유라고 결론지은 물질을 발견했습니다.[10]

엘라에이스 기니시스의 팜유는 오랫동안 식용유로 널리 사용되는 서아프리카와 중앙아프리카 국가들에서 인정받아 왔습니다. 서아프리카와 교역하는 유럽 상인들은 가끔 유럽에서 식용유로 사용할 팜유를 구입했습니다.

팜유는 영국의 산업혁명 기간 동안 기계의 산업용 윤활유로 사용하기 위해 영국의 무역업자들에게 매우 수요가 많은 상품이 되었습니다.[11] 팜유는 레버 브라더스(현재의 유니레버)의 "햇빛" 비누와 미국 팔몰리브 브랜드와 같은 비누 제품의 기초를 형성했습니다.[12]

1870년경, 팜유는 일부 서아프리카 국가의 주요 수출품이 되었지만, 1880년대 식민지 유럽 코코아 농장의 도입으로 코코아에 추월당했습니다.[13][14]

팜유는 베타카로틴 함량이 높기 때문에 자연적으로 붉은 색을 띠게 됩니다. 같은 과일의[15] 알맹이에서 유래한 야자 알맹이 기름이나 코코넛 야자(코코스 누시페라)의 알맹이에서 유래한 코코넛 기름과 혼동해서는 안 됩니다. 색상의 차이는 (생야자 알맹이 기름에는 카로티노이드가 없고 빨간색이 아닙니다), 포화 지방 함량의 경우 팜 메조카프 기름은 49% 포화인 반면, 팜 알맹이 기름과 코코넛 기름은 각각 81%와 86%의 포화 지방입니다. 그러나 RBD(정제, 표백, 탈취) 팜유라고 불리는 일반적인 상품인 정제, 중화, 표백 및 탈취가 완료된 원유 레드 팜유에는 카로티노이드가 포함되어 있지 않습니다.[16] 팜유의 많은 산업 식품 응용 분야는 포화 수준이 90%에 도달할 수 있는 팜유(종종 "변형 팜유"로 나열됨)의 분획 성분을 사용합니다.[17] 이러한 "변형" 팜유는 고도로 포화될 수 있지만 반드시 수소화되지는 않습니다.

코코넛 오일과 함께 팜 오일은 몇 안 되는 고포화 식물성 지방 중 하나이며 실온에서 반고체 상태입니다.[19] 팜유는 아프리카, 동남아시아 및 브라질 일부 지역의 열대 벨트에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 요리 재료입니다. 튀김에 사용할 때 정제 제품의 낮은 비용과[20] 높은 산화 안정성(포화도) 때문에 세계 다른 지역의 상업용 식품 산업에서 사용이 널리 확산되고 있습니다.[21][22] 한 소식통은 2015년 인간이 일인당 평균 17파운드(7.7kg)의 팜유를 섭취했다고 보고했습니다.[4]

정제

제분정제 공정을 이용하여 다양한 팜유 제품을 만듭니다.

  1. 오일은 물리적으로 여과되어 오일이 아닌 고체를 제거합니다. 그런 다음 밀도별로 분리하여 야자 열매의 물을 제거합니다.[23] 이 단계는 또한 가수분해로 인해 일부 중성지방을 잃는 대가로 껌을 가수분해하기 위해 과일을 먼저 쪄내는 경우 약간의 탈검을 수행할 수 있습니다. 그 결과는 "조잡한 팜유"라고 불립니다.[23]
  2. 디가밍 단계는 오일 내 인지질을 선택적으로 가수분해합니다. 이는 예를 들어, 0.1 중량% 인산을 첨가함으로써 달성될 수 있습니다.[24]
  3. 표백은 기름에서 색을 제거합니다. 진공 혼합기에 표백토라고 하는 점토 흡수제를 첨가하면 이를 달성할 수 있습니다.[24]
  4. 필터는 기름에서 점토를 제거합니다.[24]
  5. 오일은 가수분해에 의해 생성된 유리 지방산(FFA)을 제거하는 역할을 하는 탈취제로 들어갑니다. 한 가지 유형의 탈취제는 다양한 온도를 사용하여 FFA를 증류하여 작동합니다. FFA는 "팜 지방산 증류액" (PFAD)으로 수집됩니다.[24] PFAD는 그 자체로 비누, 세척 분말 및 기타 제품 제조에 사용되는 귀중한 제품입니다.
  6. 최종 정제된 오일은 "정제, 표백 및 탈취 팜유"(RBDPO)라고 불립니다. RBDPO는 세계 상품 시장에서 판매되는 기본 팜유입니다.

RBDPO는 구성 요소의 다른 용융점을 사용하여 추가로 분류할 수 있습니다. 아까 고체로 결정되는 녹는점이 더 높은 부분을 팜 스테아린이라고 합니다. 대부분 저장된 지방으로 구성되어 있습니다. 남아있는 액체 부분을 팜 올레인이라고 합니다.[25] 또한 원유 팜유를 사용하더라도 다른 가공 지점에서 분획하는 것도 가능합니다.[26]

붉은야자유

가나에서 길가에서 페트병에 담긴 붉은 팜유가 판매되고 있습니다. 가나에서는 팜유의 장인 생산이 일반적이며 대부분의 전통 요리에서 주요 주식을 제공합니다.

1990년대 중반부터 붉은 팜유는 마요네즈와 식물성 기름으로 혼합하는 등의 용도 외에도 식용유로 사용하기 위해 기름 야자 열매에서 차게 압착하여 병에 담아 왔습니다.[16]

야자 열매에서 생산되는 기름을 붉은 야자 기름 또는 그냥 야자 기름이라고 합니다. 약 50%의 포화지방(팜 커널 오일보다 상당히 적은)과 40%의 불포화지방과 10%의 다중불포화지방입니다. 가공되지 않은 상태에서 붉은 팜유는 카로틴 성분이 풍부하여 강렬한 짙은 붉은 색을 띠고 있습니다. 레드 팜유에는 스테롤, 비타민 E, 그리고 알파-카로틴, 베타-카로틴, 리코펜과 같은 카로티노이드도 포함되어 있습니다.[27]

흰야자유

흰 팜유는 가공과 정제의 결과입니다. 정제하면 팜유는 짙은 붉은 색을 잃게 됩니다. 식품 제조에 광범위하게 사용되며 땅콩 버터와 칩을 포함한 다양한 가공 식품에서 찾을 수 있습니다. 흔히 팜 쇼트닝으로 표기되며 다양한 구운 제품과 튀긴 제품에서 수소화 지방의 대체 재료로 사용됩니다.

사용하다

음식에

팜유는 포화도가 높기 때문에 온대 지역에서는 실온에서 고체 상태로 만들기 때문에 페이스트리 반죽이나 구운 제품을 만드는 것과 같이 고체 지방이 바람직한 용도에서 버터수소 첨가 식물성 기름의 저렴한 대체물이 됩니다. 팜유는 에구시 수프오크라 수프와 같은 서아프리카 요리에 사용됩니다.[28] 수소화 식물성 기름의 트랜스 지방과 관련된 건강 문제가 식품 산업에서 팜유의 사용 증가에 기여했을 수 있습니다.[29] 팜유는 때때로 송아지 우유 대체제의 부원료로 사용됩니다.[30][31]

비식품 소비재

팜유는 개인 관리 및 청소 제품에 광범위하게 사용되며 거의 모든 비누, 샴푸 또는 세제에 발포제를 제공합니다. 비누, 샴푸, 메이크업, 로션을 포함한 퍼스널 케어 제품의 약 70%에는 팜유에서 추출한 성분이 포함되어 있습니다. 하지만 이 팜유 성분에는 200가지가 넘는 다양한 이름이 있고 그 중 10%만이 "팜"이라는 단어를 포함하고 있습니다.[32]

바이오 매스와 바이오 연료

팜유는 메틸 에스테르와 수소 탈산소 바이오디젤을 모두 생산하는 데 사용됩니다.[33] 팜유 메틸 에스테르는 에스테르 교환이라는 과정을 통해 생성됩니다. 팜유 바이오디젤은 종종 팜유 바이오디젤 혼합물을 만들기 위해 다른 연료와 혼합됩니다.[34] 팜유 바이오디젤은 유럽 EN 14214 바이오디젤 기준을 충족합니다.[33] 수소 탈산소 바이오디젤은 지방이 직접 수소 분해되어 알칸과 프로판으로 생성됩니다. 세계 최대 규모의 팜유 바이오디젤 공장은 핀란드가 운영하는 싱가포르 네스테오일 바이오디젤 공장으로, 2011년 연산 80만톤 규모로 문을 열고 말레이시아와 인도네시아에서 수입한 팜유에서 수소산화 NEXBTL 바이오디젤을 생산하고 있습니다.[35][36]

유럽으로의 팜유 수출 중 상당한 양이 바이오디젤로 전환됩니다(2018년 초 기준 인도네시아: 40%, 말레이시아: 30%).[37][38] 2014년, 유럽의 모든 팜유의 거의 절반이 자동차와 트럭 연료로 연소되었습니다.[39] 2018년 기준으로 유럽 팜유 수입량의 절반이 바이오디젤에 사용되고 있습니다.[40] 팜유를 바이오디젤로 사용하면 화석 연료를 사용할 때보다 3배의 탄소 배출량이 발생하며,[41] 예를 들어 "인도네시아 팜유로 만든 바이오디젤은 세계 탄소 문제를 더 악화시키는 것이 아니라 더 악화시킵니다."[42]

인도네시아의 팜 기반 바이오디젤 프로그램으로 인한 석유 팜 생산 증가 압력이 있습니다. 바이오디젤은 현재 가스 펌프에서 30:70 팜유 대 기존 디젤 비율(B30으로 알려져 있음)을 포함하고 있습니다. 인도네시아 정부는 100% 팜유 바이오디젤(또는 B100)을 생산해 기존 디젤 사용에서 벗어나는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 인도네시아 정부는 이러한 미래의 수요를 충족시키기 위해 약 1,500만 헥타르의 기름야자 농장을 설립해야 할 것으로 추정했습니다.[43]

기름야자 껍질, 기름야자 열매 다발 등 기름야자를 가공할 때 발생하는 유기성 폐기물도 에너지 생산에 사용할 수 있습니다. 이 폐기물은 바이오 연료로 사용될 수 있는 펠릿으로 전환될 수 있습니다.[44] 또한 식품을 튀기는 데 사용된 팜유는 바이오디젤의 메틸 에스테르로 전환될 수 있습니다. 사용된 식용유를 화학적으로 처리하여 석유 디젤과 유사한 바이오 디젤을 만듭니다.[45]

상처관리중

팜유는 항균 효과가 있는 것으로 추정되는 상처에 적용되지만, 연구 결과 그 효과가 확인되지는 않습니다.[46]

생산.

2018-2019년 세계 팜유 생산량은 7,350만 톤(8,100만 톤 부족)입니다.[47] 팜유의 연간 생산량은 2050년까지 2억 4천만 톤(2억 6천만 톤 부족)에 이를 것으로 예상됩니다.[48] 2022년 러시아의 우크라이나 침공으로 촉발된 식량 위기기후 변화로 인한 극한 날씨로 인한 세계 다른 지역의 농작물 실패 때 인도네시아 정부는 팜유 수출을 금지했습니다.[49] 이는 말레이시아의 수확 감소와 결합되어 글로벌 가격을 크게 상승시키는 동시에 가용성을 감소시켜 글로벌 공급망에 파급 효과를 초래했습니다.[49] 2022년 5월 23일, 인도네시아 정부는 공급의 균형을 맞추기 위해 거래를 재개했습니다.[50]

인도네시아

인도네시아는 2006년 말레이시아를 제치고 세계 최대 팜유 생산국으로 2,090만 톤(2,300만 톤) 이상을 생산했으며,[51][52] 그 수는 이후 3,450만 톤(3,800만 톤) 이상으로 증가했습니다(2016년 생산량).[53][54][55][56] 인도네시아는 2030년 말까지 생산량을 두 배로 늘릴 것으로 예상하고 있습니다.[57] 2019년까지 이 숫자는 5,180만 미터 톤(5,710만 톤 부족)이었습니다.[58] 2010년 말에는 생산량의 60%가 원유 형태로 수출되었습니다.[59] FAO 데이터에 따르면 1994년과 2004년 사이에 생산량이 400% 이상 증가하여 870만 미터톤(960만 톤 부족)을 넘어섰습니다.

말레이시아

말레이시아는 세계에서 두 번째로 큰 팜유 생산국입니다. 1992년, 삼림 벌채에 대한 우려에 대응하여, 말레이시아 정부는 최소 국토의 절반을 의 덮개로 유지함으로써 팜유 농장의 확장을 제한하겠다고 약속했습니다.[60][61]

2012년, 이 나라는 약 5,000,000 헥타르 (19,000 평방 마일)의 땅에서 1,880만 톤 (2,070만 톤)의 원유를 생산했습니다.[63][64] 인도네시아는 더 많은 팜유를 생산하고 있지만, 말레이시아는 2011년에 1,800만 미터 톤의 팜유 제품을 수출한 세계 최대의 팜유 수출국입니다. 인도, 중국, 파키스탄, 유럽 연합 및 미국은 말레이시아 팜유 제품의 주요 수입국입니다.[65] 2016년 미국 트럼프 당선 이후 팜유 가격이 4년 만에 최고치로 뛰어올랐습니다.[66]

나이지리아

2018년 현재 나이지리아는 약 230만 헥타르(570만 에이커)가 경작 중인 세 번째로 큰 생산국입니다. 1934년까지 나이지리아는 세계 최대의 생산국이었습니다. 소규모 생산자와 대규모 생산자 모두가 업계에 참여했습니다.[67][68]

태국.

태국은 세계에서 세 번째로 큰 원유 생산국으로, 전 세계 생산량의 1.2%인 연간 약 200만 톤(220만 톤 부족)을 생산합니다. 태국의 거의 모든 생산은 현지에서 소비됩니다. 야자 농장과 추출 공장의 거의 85%가 태국 남부에 있습니다. 2016년 말, 470만에서 580만 라이(75만에서 930만 헥타르, 190만에서 2,300,000 에이커)가 기름야자에 심어져 30만 명의 농부를 고용하고 있으며, 대부분 20 라이(3.2 헥타르, 7.9 에이커)의 소규모 토지에 거주하고 있습니다. ASEAN은 팜유 생산에서 5,250만 톤(5,790만 톤 부족)을 차지하며, 전 세계 전체의 약 85%, 전 세계 수출의 90% 이상을 차지합니다. 인도네시아는 세계 수출의 52%를 차지하고 있습니다. 말레이시아 수출은 총 38%입니다. 팜유의 최대 소비국은 인도, 유럽연합, 중국이며, 이들 3개국은 세계 수출의 거의 50%를 소비하고 있습니다. 태국의 내부무역부(DIT)는 보통 원유 팜유의 가격을 정하고 정제 팜유의 가격을 정합니다. 태국 농부들은 말레이시아와 인도네시아 농부들에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 수확량을 가지고 있습니다. 태국 팜유 작물은 경쟁 국가의 약 20%에 비해 4~17%의 석유를 생산합니다. 또한 인도네시아와 말레이시아 오일 팜 농장은 태국 농장의 10배 크기입니다.[69]

베냉

내셔널 지오그래픽의 최근 기사에 따르면, 베냉의 대부분의 팜유는 여전히 가정용으로 여성에 의해 생산되고 있다고 합니다.[72] FAO는 또한 베냉의 농부들이 농생태학을 실천한다고 말합니다.[73] 그들은 작은 농장에서 야자 열매를 수확하고 팜유는 대부분 지역 소비에 사용됩니다.

카메룬

카메룬은 미국 헤라클레스 농장에서 시작한 생산 프로젝트가 진행 중이었습니다.[74] 그러나 이 프로젝트는 카메룬의 시민 사회 단체들의 압력으로 중단되었습니다. 프로젝트가 중단되기 전에 헤라클레스는 협상에서 일찍 지속 가능한 팜유에 관한 원탁회의를 떠났습니다.[75] 이 프로젝트는 마을 주민들의 반대와 생물 다양성을 위한 민감한 지역에 프로젝트가 위치해 논란이 되어 왔습니다.

콜롬비아

2018년 콜롬비아의 팜유 총 생산량은 160만 톤(180만 톤 부족)에 달하며 국가 농업 GDP의 약 8%를 차지하며 주로 소규모 농민(콜롬비아 팜유 부문의 65%)에게 혜택을 주고 있습니다.[76][77] 환경, 과학 그리고 정책의 한 연구에 따르면, 콜롬비아는 삼림 벌채를 일으키지 않고 지속 가능한 팜유를 생산할 수 있는 잠재력을 가지고 있다고 합니다.[78] 게다가, 팜유와 다른 작물들은 코카와 같은 불법 작물들에 대한 생산적인 대안을 제공합니다.[79]

에콰도르

에콰도르는 팜유 생산자들이 지속 가능한 방법으로 전환하고 친환경 산업을 발전시키기 위한 이니셔티브에 따라 RSPO 인증을 달성할 수 있도록 지원하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다.[80]

가나

가나에는 야자 열매 종들이 많이 있는데, 이것은 이 지역의 농업에 중요한 기여를 할 수 있습니다. 가나에는 현지 야자 열매에서부터 현지에서 농업이라고 불리는 다른 종에 이르기까지 다양한 야자 종들이 있지만, 그것은 현지와 이웃 국가들에게만 판매되었습니다. 가나는 팜유의 주요 성장 지역으로 간주되기 때문에 주요 투자 자금이 농장을 구입함에 따라 현재 생산이 확대되고 있습니다.

케냐

케냐의 식용유 국내 생산은 연간 수요의 약 3분의 1을 차지하며, 이는 약 380,000 미터 톤(42만 톤 부족)으로 추정됩니다. 나머지는 연간 약 1억 4천만 달러의 비용으로 수입되며 식용유는 석유 다음으로 국가에서 가장 중요한 수입품입니다. 1993년부터 케냐 서부에 있는 유엔 식량 농업 기구에 의해 내한성, 고수익 오일 팜의 새로운 잡종 품종이 추진되었습니다. 중요한 환금 작물을 제공하면서 국가의 식용유 적자를 완화할 뿐만 아니라 식량 작물이나 토착 식물과 경쟁하지 않고 토양의 안정화를 제공하기 때문에 이 지역에서 환경적 이점이 있다고 주장됩니다.[81]

미얀마

팜유는 1920년대에 영국령 버마(현재의 미얀마)에 도입되었습니다.[82] 1970년대부터 타닌타리 지역, 카인, 라카인 주에서 소규모 팜유 농장이 개발되었습니다.[82] 1999년, 집권 군사 정권인 국가 평화 개발 위원회는 특히 미얀마 최남단 타닌타리 지역에서 이러한 농장의 대규모 개발을 시작했습니다.[82] 2019년 기준으로 44개 회사에 401,814ha 이상의 팜유 양허가 수여되었습니다.[82] 수여된 양허안의 60%는 숲과 자생식물로 구성되어 있으며, 일부 양허안은 삼림 벌채를 목격하고 인도차이나 호랑이와 같은 고유종의 보존 노력을 위협하는 타닌타리와 레냐 국립공원을 포함한 국립공원과 중복됩니다.[82][83]

사회적, 환경적 영향

인도네시아와 말레이시아의 일부 지역에서는 오일 팜 단일 재배를 위한 공간을 만들기 위해 숲이 개간되었습니다.[84] 이것은 삼림 벌채와 생물 다양성 손실로 이어지는 지역 생태계에 상당한 영향을 미칩니다. 예를 들어, 이러한 과정은 생존한 세 종의 오랑우탄의 자연 서식지에 상당한 면적 손실을 가져왔습니다. 특히 수마트라 오랑우탄은 팜유 재배로 서식지가 줄어들어 심각한 멸종위기종으로 지정되었습니다.[85][57]

사회의

보르네오에서는 숲(F)이 기름야자 재배지(G)로 대체되고 있습니다. 이러한 변화는 모든 실용적인 목적(H)에서 되돌릴 수 없습니다.

팜유 산업은 노동자, 토착민, 팜유 생산 지역 주민들에게 긍정적인 영향과 부정적인 영향을 모두 주었습니다. 팜유 생산은 고용 기회를 제공하며 인프라, 사회 서비스를 개선하고 빈곤을 줄이는 것으로 나타났습니다.[86][87][88] 그런데 기름야자 재배지가 토지에 거주하는 원주민들의 협의나 보상 없이 토지를 개발하여 사회적 갈등을 일으키는 경우도 있습니다.[89][90][91] 말레이시아에서 불법 이민자들을 이용하는 것은 팜유 산업 내의 노동 조건에 대한 우려를 자아내기도 했습니다.[92][93][94]

식품 대 연료

인권

환경의

마켓

식품표시규정

이전에는 유럽 연합(EU)의 식품 라벨에 팜유를 "식물성 지방" 또는 "식물성 기름"으로 기재할 수 있었습니다. 2014년 12월부터 EU의 식품 포장은 더 이상 성분 목록에서 "식물성 지방" 또는 "식물성 기름"이라는 일반 용어를 사용할 수 없습니다. 식품 생산자는 팜유를 포함하여 사용되는 특정 유형의 식물성 지방을 나열해야 합니다. 식물성 기름과 지방은 "식물성 기름" 또는 "식물성 지방"이라는 용어로 성분 목록에 함께 분류될 수 있지만, 이는 식물성 원산지의 유형(예: 야자, 해바라기 또는 유채)과 "다양한 비율로"라는 문구가 따라야 합니다.[129]

영양, 구성, 건강

팜유는 많은 요리의 주식이며 지방의 공급원일 뿐만 아니라 상당한 칼로리를 제공합니다.[142][143][144] 2015년 전 세계적으로 평균적으로 인간은 1인당 7.7 kg (17 lb)의 팜유를 소비했습니다.[4] 팜유 소비와 질병 위험의 관계는 이전에 평가되었지만 팜유 효과를 구체적으로 평가하는 임상 연구의 질은 전반적으로 좋지 않았습니다.[145] 이에 따라 식용유 포화지방 함량의 원천으로 팜유와 팔미트산 섭취의 해로운 영향에 대한 연구가 집중되면서 팜유와 포화지방을 식단에서 다불포화지방으로 대체해야 한다는 결론을 도출했습니다.[146][147]

글리시딜 지방산 에스테르(GE), 3-MCPD2-MCPD는 고온(약 200 °C(392 °F))[150]에서 정제되기 때문에 팜 오일 및 팜 지방에서 특히 발견됩니다. GE의 모체 화합물인 글리시돌은 유전독성 및 발암성이 있는 것으로 간주되기 때문에 EFSA는 GE에 대한 안전한 수준을 설정하지 않았습니다. 카로틴

붉은 팜유에는 알파카로틴, 베타카로틴, 리코펜 등 카로틴이 풍부해 특징적인 검붉은 색을 띠게 됩니다.[153][155] 그러나 원유에서 정제, 표백 및 탈취된 팜유("RBD 팜유"라고 함)에는 카로틴이 포함되어 있지 않습니다.[16]

팔미트산
